UTICA — United Way of the Mohawk Valley will undergo a change in leadership as current Chief Executive Officer Sue Litera is leaving the organization to pursue a new opportunity as CEO of Hospice CNY and of the Finger Lakes.

“I will deeply miss United Way, its mission, the team, the board, and most importantly, the community that supports us,” Litera said. “I am excited to now lead the team at Hospice CNY and of the Finger Lakes, a mission that is extremely personal to me.”

“I am leaving the role in the capable hands of Sarah Macri, the director of development and strategic impact, who will now serve as the agency’s interim CEO. Sarah has worked in almost every department within United Way and exudes the mission and its need in the community. I am thrilled that United Way can seamlessly fill the role internally, demonstrating its strength and commitment to the community.”

Effective immediately, Macri will assume her duties as interim CEO. She has been with the United Way of the Mohawk Valley for four years, beginning her career as a coordinated entry specialist and advancing into leadership through her dedication, impact, and commitment to the organization’s mission, according to the United Way announcement.

In her most recent role as director of development and strategic impact, Macri has overseen key initiatives including 211 MidYork, Ride United Transportation, youth programming, and community investment strategies. She has a bachelor’s degree in psychology with a minor in business from Columbia College in South Carolina, bringing both academic knowledge and hands-on community experience to her leadership.

“United Way has truly been my home,” said Macri. “I started here as a coordinated entry specialist and have grown within this organization over the past four years, gaining experience across multiple departments and initiatives.”

“I am incredibly honored to step into this role and continue the work that means so much to me,” Macri said. “I am committed to supporting our team, strengthening our partnerships, and continuing to show up for our community in meaningful ways.”

Under Macri’s leadership, the United Way of the Mohawk Valley will remain focused on advancing its core impact areas of health and wellness, economic stability, and community responsiveness, the announcement said.
