Backpack Program
Supporting Children and Families During School Breaks
In partnership with the Food Bank of Central New York, the Backpack Program provides children with essential supplies and nonperishable food during extended school breaks. Many children rely on school meals as a key part of their daily nutrition, and when school is out, families can face additional challenges. Our program helps bridge that gap, ensuring children have the resources they need to thrive.
How It Works
During each extended school break, participating schools receive backpacks filled with nonperishable food items and other essentials. These backpacks are distributed directly to students to take home, supporting both their immediate needs and their families.
Impact
In our first year, 2025, with the Utica City School District, we provided 500 backpacks during each of the district’s four extended school breaks, reaching 2,000 students over the school year. With community support, we hope to expand the program to more school districts across the region, helping even more children stay nourished and prepared.
