Emergency Food & Shelter Funds

United Way of the Mohawk Valley administers Oneida and Herkimer counties' Emergency Food and Shelter Program. Funding through this program becomes available in phased periods, as announced by United Way Worldwide. United Way of the Mohawk Valley will email interested organizations when the next funding phase is announced.

Funding 

A Local EFS Board is charged with distributing funds appropriated by Congress to help expand the capacity of food and shelter programs in high-need areas around the country.

Selection Process

Oneida County

The Oneida County Local EFS Board, made up of representatives from Oneida County’s local agencies, determines how the funds awarded to Oneida County are distributed among local service agencies' emergency food and shelter programs. The Oneida County EFS Local Board is responsible for recommending agencies to receive these funds and any additional funds made available under this program phase.

Under the terms of the grant from the National Board, local agencies chosen to receive funds must:

  • Be a non-profit or governmental agency in Oneida County with FEIN registration
  • Be eligible to receive Federal funds
  • Practice nondiscrimination
  • Have an accounting system and conduct an annual audit
  • Have demonstrated the capability to deliver emergency food and/or shelter program
  • Have a voluntary board, if you’re a private voluntary organization
  • Have or applied for a DUNS number

Herkimer County

The Herkimer County Local EFS Board, made up of representatives from Herkimer County’s local agencies, determines how the funds awarded to Herkimer County are distributed among the emergency food and shelter programs run by local service agencies. The Herkimer County EFS Local Board is responsible for recommending agencies to receive these funds and any additional funds made available under this program phase.
