United Way of the Mohawk Valley has launched a unique food giveaway series for City of Utica residents. Our Take and Make meal boxes will be given away through three distribution days, each handing out between 1,700 and 1,500 meal boxes!
What's in the box?
These unique meal boxes include ingredients to prepare at least 5 meals for a family of 5 with corresponding step-by-step recipe cards. United Way has partnered with Casa Imports and Karam Produce, allowing families to expect fresh produce, meat, and other ingredients as part of each box.
How do I receive a meal box?
United Way’s Take and Make meal boxes are available to City of Utica residents by reservation.
Each distribution allows for a drive-through or walk-through pick-up option. Pick-up time slot can be selected upon reservation of the free meal box. Exact pick-up location details will be sent upon registration completion.
Registration for our April box opens Tuesday, April 13, 2021.
Where and when are the distributions?
There will be three total distributions throughout the City of Utica. Exact locations will be shared upon reservation. Upon reservation, residents will choose a time slot for their pick-up.
The first distribution was on October 25, 2020. The second was on February 21, 2021. The third distribution is April 25, 2021.

Each distribution is only possible with the help of volunteers! Our last distribution brought more than 70 volunteers together over a three-day event assisting us with packing the distributing meal boxes.
Volunteers are needed to help with pre-event needs such as packing meal boxes, and distribution day set up, check-in, box handout, and more. Different days, tasks, and time slot details will be listed on United Way’s Volunteers United online platform.
